Polenta? Polenta.... Its a peculiar food item!

So, I was told recently to try Polenta... Well Karl was and I followed suit to see and it is very interesting.

This was taken off Wikipedia (always reliable) and this is a brief description:
"As it is known today, polenta derives from earlier forms of grain mush (known as puls or pulmentum in Latin or more commonly as gruel or porridge), commonly eaten since Roman times. Before the introduction of corn from the New World in the 16th century, polenta was made with such starchy ingredients as farrochestnut flour, milletspelt, or chickpeas.[3]
Polenta has a creamy texture due to the gelatinization of starch in the grain. However, it may not be completely homogeneous if a coarse grind or hard grain such as flint corn is used.
Historically, polenta was served as a peasant food in North America and Europe. The reliance on maize, which lacks readily accessible niacin unless cooked with alkali to release it, as a staple caused outbreaks of pellagra throughout the American South and much of Europe until the 20th century. In the 1940s and 1950s, polenta was often eaten with salted anchovy orherring, sometimes topped with sauces"

I was told this is a good substitute for bread and you can use it is different ways!
This is what I done with it though, for a first time try.... It turned out okay!

SoI bought the Polenta from Morrisons for 85p! Brought it home and took a photo.

I followed the instructions on the back... cut it about 2.5cm thick and put it in the frying pan.
WARNING - Make sure the fat is pretty much heated before you put this in... otherwise it goes like SOGGY fried bread... (Yum...Friend bread)
I cut up some onions and added them too to flavour the Polenta, then added Tomato towards the end to cook them up.


Voila! Here is it, it didnt taste to bad!!!

The purpose of my blog is to show my progress in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and other martial arts I am interested in, in this case at the moment is also Muay Thai.

I train at Andy Roberts BJJ Academy in Farnborough, a very respected and ever growing academy with the best fighters you will ever know.
Andy has been trained under the infamous Roger Gracie, so you know having him as your mentor, teacher and friend you can keep the faith and know your going to learn the best Jiu Jitsu ever! 

Others out of our Academy are the likes of James Hardy and Jay Butler, also our Helen 'Hellraiser' Harper has recently come back from Thailand and is taking the Muay Thai class, she is AWESOME, check her out if you have a chance, she's up for a challenge so if you are then defiantly check her out!
